Floyd County is partnering with Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development and Virginia Department of Agricultural and Consumer Services on a new project Floyd Grown.
Floyd Grown aims to help small businesses in agriculture, food and forestry-related ventures grow. This multi-faceted project will inventory local assets, provide technical assistance and potential grant support to small businesses owners, and research ways to support them for greater sales, income
Participating businesses are eligible to:
- Participate in free workshops, such as Farm and Forestry-related Grants and Technical Assistance (and other workshops to be determined by the questionnaire responses!)
- Apply for $1,000 worth of FREE technical assistance–such as graphic design, marketing, process assessment, energy audit, legal assistance, web-site assessment, and enhancement, customer mapping, etc.
- Apply for cash support to improve the business. There will be $15,000 in cash prizes for winning businesses.

NOTE: If you choose to fill the Local Grant form out in Google forms, make sure you email all the corresponding documents (Source/s of information for your cost estimate (Question 6), Budget Request table and the optional Business Plan marked “Proprietary and Confidential”) to email@example.com by the application closing date on Friday, August 11, 2017 at 4:00pm. All items should be clearly marked with your name.
Deadline and important dates:
Thursday, June 1, 2017: Announce 10 Businesses that will receive One-on-One Assistance via the Floyd Press, Floyd County Economic Development Authority Facebook page (facebook.com/yesfloydva/) and the Floyd County Economic Development website (yesfloydva.org). We will seek out the experts and coordinate technical assistance in June and July.
Friday, August 11, 2017, 4:00pm: Floyd Grown Local Grant forms are due.
Saturday, September 9, 2017 at the Floyd County Fair: Announcement of the Floyd Grown Local Grant winners.
